Virus Removal

You power up the computer only to find a warning message telling you (in mis-spelt poor grammar) that your computer is in danger and infected. You then find you can't get rid of this message and it is in complete control of your desktop. It was fine yesterday but now it has big problems!

There are many ways that a virus like this can get a hold of your computer, a link in an email, a copied file from a memory stick, or embedded in a web site. The result is the same, your computer will be infected and often you will have limited control over the machine. Try to remove it and you may find access to it is blocked, your anti virus software (if installed) may be deactivated, your Internet browser may be disabled and the whole machine may be slow and unstable. At this point you may need our services.

We deal with viruses by working through a tried and tested routine which initially identifies the infection, next we prevent it from running at start up, before clearing the infection from the computer. Once cleared a series of further clean ups and searches are required to ensure that the virus can't re-infect by way of a registry command or hidden open port (link to a web site). Finaly a check on the anti virus package ensures it is running, updated and the computer is scanned and clean. We also try to detect the source of the virus (if you don't know) to prevent you falling victim to the same trick again.

Fortunately in most cases your personal data is unaffected, so data loss is unlikely, (but there can be exceptions so always have a recent backup of your personal data, eg: Documents, Pictures & Music).
